The Uncle Phil Fund
My very first band I was in included my schoolmate Phil Leadbetter. We, The Knoxville NewGrass Boys grew up playing bluegrass music in Knoxville and around the region. Phil has been diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma and is currently undergoing treatment. Several benefits have been planned to help with his ongoing medical expenses and a website has been setup with information on other things that are happening for his benefit. I ask that if you are unable to attend any of the events you make a donation through the website and help out a fellow musician/bandmate/schoolmate. Lets remember Phil in ours prayers and wish for a speedy and full healing.

JANUARY:

HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone, we hope you had a safe and enjoyable time. We returned from Jekyll Island in fine form and really enjoyed being part of the Adams & Anderson festival. Norman and Tony bring a great line-up to their shows and we look forward to working with them again in the future. On another note we were real surprised to find out the Derek had never seen the ocean, so we spent part of the morning Thursday wondering along the shore and taking in the ocean air. Don't worry Derek it probably wont be your last visit to the east coast and maybe next time you'll need the sunscreen.
Just a couple of things on tap for us this month beginning with an appearence at WDVX Blue Plate special Friday January 13 at noon. If you can't be there in person be sure to listen in on 89.9 or 102.9 in Knoxville, TN or webcast www.WDVX.com. Also on Friday January 13 will be returning to Mike's Music in Flintstone, GA for another IN HOUSE CONCERT. Those of you in the Chattanooga, TN area come on out and join us. Saturday night January 14 will find us in Maryville, TN for an evening concert at The Palace Theater, tickets are available at the door the night of the show or to ensure your seat order on line at The Palace Theater .
If you haven't gotten your copy yet be sure to pick up the latest issue of Bluegrass Unlimited. You'll want to check out the article on Sutton Old Time Music Hour and host Sam Stout at Sutton General Store Granville, TN. Nancy Cardwell did a nice write up on our friend, the store and the weekly radio show and she even included a photo of us on the "world famous corner stage". If you've not had the chance to visit Sutton's make plans to do so at sometime this year, you certainly won't be disappointed. A list of our dates at Sutton's are on the schedule page, come on out we would love to see you there.

DECEMBER:

We had a great time at Sutton General Store as the folks had the store in it's Christmas trim. Dinner included turkey and dressing with all the trimmings and folks also got to hear Sam Stout read "The Night Before Christmas" as only Sam could do it.

We were honored to be special guests for this year's LIVING CHRISTMAS TREE at Wallace Memorial Baptist Church Knoxville. The Adult Choir, Youth Choir, Children's Choir, Drama Team and those working behind the scenes totaled 414. There was over 5,200 in attendance over the two days and there were 156 desicions for Christ made including 74 first time professions of faith. Sunday evenings audience of 1716 was the largest ever to see a LCT presentation in the 38 year history. To God be the Glory!

As we look ahead we will be at Jekyll Island for New Years, Norman Adams and Tony Anderson have been putting on the New Years Festival for 36 years and they always have a great line-up of bands and the best bluegrass fans anywhere. We hope you can join us.
January will bring us home to Tennessee for an evening concert at the Palace Theater on Saturday the 14th. We will also be returning to Flinstone, GA Friday the 13th for a house concert at Mike's Music. Hope you can join us!
